… would you recommended it?
Our dog is an extremely fast and energetic 1 year old female husky; who is an EXTREME puller, and will *never* heal. So, for a dog that’s not well trained as far as healing, (she’s 100% at all other commands, however) would you advise it?
Plus, my dad is really worried that she’d run under the bike. Is this possible? Or is the dog far enough away from the bike to keep a safe distance?
THANK YOU! =)
i would not suggest that one at all, especially for a dog not used to it and who is strong … you need one that attaches to the back tire … attached to the seat pole or front of bike, and that dog will pull you off the bike … the back tire is the most secure place to attach … the dog will learn very quickly how to run with the bike … my dog is 14 pounds and she has never come close to the bike …

i would advise running your dog with the bike … a husky likes to run and will love biking with you … it does not matter if the dog is trained to heal, as long as you can bike fast all will be well :O) the website i posted answers some of your questions as well …

Our dog, Comet, is a mixture of large German Shepherd that needs lots of exercise at least every other day for not going crazy. If more of the same 9 years, there's always this way. She loves to run off leash, but do not have dog parks. So wherever we live, we try to find open areas unofficial where you can run freely. However, usually these places are half a mile or more away from where we live.
Instead of taking our car to get to these places, we use our bikes. When we had the kite and realized that her need for exercise has been, I held the leash in my hand while cycling. However, I discovered the stupidity that was shortly after he started doing.
I was cycling along, holding the leash in his hand when he saw the cat before I. Normally, a dog is reasonable, but when she sees a cat, especially one that is in motion it becomes a kind of switch. A moment later he was the death on the road with a leg injury when he ran down the street.
After this incident, I developed an attachment to the dog house bike " Bloopee. Bloopee's purpose is to lower its center of gravity when there is tension in the belt. If the Bloopee set quite low, a large dog should not be capable of not pull the bike with a cleft. I used my original Bloopee successfully for 7 years with both Comet (62 lbs) and a larger dog than we had that weighed 92 pounds.
The Bloopee is very easy and cheap to carry out your dog's exercise bike safely. All you need is a piece of strap and a strong breeze. I use a 18 cm piece of the belt, 1.5 inches wide for strength and complement together. [Metric 460 mm by 38 mm] You can use 1-inch strap in place, but I recommend use a double layer, so it should be 36 inches. [915 mm x 25 mm]
To make each loop, use double thread and sew the two sides together in a cross and the pattern rectangle for maximum strength. The bonds must be large enough you can put the snap into the holes.
Bloopee placed around the mother before the bike so as not to interfere with the brake cable. Set the lowest possible, just above the fork, if you can. Then connect the loop with the snap.
Bloopee To use, connect one end of the strap on the collar of his dog. Thread the strap through the complement. Hold the handlebar with one hand, and always can apply the brake. If the belt is too soft, you can shorten the loop and the extra length to save.
It is best to go slowly the first time that you and your dog use the Bloopee. If your dog is not used to running alongside a bicycle, now is the time to train himself or to stay away. Your dog may be more comfortable in the hand opposite to traffic.
IMPORTANT:
- Be sure not to keep both hands on the handlebars while cycling with your dog. This keeps the weight centered properly.
- Be respectful of other cyclists and pedestrians
- Use the sidewalk if you can not use a road or a bicycle secure
Be careful when biking with your dog. The possible risks include:
- Your dog trying to cross the street in front of you
- The leash tangled in the spokes or pedals tires
- Someone opens a door of the car and bike by
- A passing car was pressing against the curb or a parked car
- Rejas, broken glass or other obstacles in the way
