How do you train a dog to become a bird-dog?
I have a Labradoodle (Labador-Poodle mix) and I also like to hunt Pheasant, Quail, and etc. but I don’t want to send my dog to my huntclub for a summer so does anyone know how to train a dog at home? I do have a chucker with feathers (no guts!) in my freezer that one guide my Dad and I had said to throw for my dog.
Hopefully the lab-part of the dog will shine over the poodle-part….start with playing fetch with him… have him practice bringing it back to you and going into a ‘sit’ position. Also, watch to see if he has a ‘soft mouth’ or not… you want the birds returned in one piece.
