HELP! my dog gets out and runs across a busy street!?

my dog sometimes gets out (yes everything is secure) but sometimes a door swings open, that kinda thing…we don’t see and she wants to run across a street to a park and Chase squirrels! How obviously besides securing doors, and gates…. can i get my dog to NOT do this…this will get her killed….what options do i have.please dog people help!

well if she is getting out, then things are not secure… haha. and if it is you or someone else opening the gate when she runs out, put her on a leash before you open it! Just take steps to CORRECTLY secure your yard and her. Some dogs (like my female lab) will find a way out regardless, mine has climbed fences, lifted the latch with her nose, etc. to get out of our yard after some squirrel or something. in these extreme cases, you have to keep them in a kennel or crate. I now keep mine in a kennel with a high enough fence that she can not climb with a latch that has an automatic lock that she cant lift with her nose. (you can find fence heights as compared to the size of your dog by searching online) i’d suggest that. :o )

Installing a Dog Door Can be Beneficial

If you find it troublesome letting your dog in and out of the house, the ideal solution is to install a dog door or doggie door.  Dog doors, also know as doggie doors are designed to allow dogs to have access inside and outside the house without bothering the owner. Convenience, safety and mobility are important in looking for dog doors.

There several types of dog doors that you can choose from. There is the vinyl flap that is made from vinyl which allows dogs your dog to go in and out of the house but prevents other small animals or rodents from getting in your house. There is also the magnetic dog doors that has an added magnetic switch that keeps the door closed until your dog, wearing the collar that triggers the door to open. Another is the hinged at the top that swings in both directions.

Dogs need to exercise stretch for them to stay active and healthy. You cannot just leave your dog slouch and lie the whole day. A pet that lacks exercise are often sickly and unhealthy. If often you cannot find to walk your dog, a dog door would give them an opportunity to roam around your yard without waiting for you to walk them or let them out on the fenced yard. Having a dog door installed, you can manage your time better.

Dog doors are also convenient when you are potty training your dog. Since with the dog doors, they will have an access in and out of the house, without waiting for you to open the door for them, incidents such as having their waste on the carpet or inside your house can be avoided.

Allowing your dog to have freedom to access the in and out of your house saves your time from getting up and opening the door for them especially at night. With dog doors, you can be sure that your pet gets enough fresh air and adequate exercise to keep them healthy and active.
