How do you keep your pet rats from chewing their hammock?
I feel like every time I put one up it is dismantled within a day or two. I have tried putting Eyelets into the corners but they still chew it. Any suggestions for the best thing to hang the hammock with? Should I use stronger fabric than fleece? I know not to use towels.
When my dogs chew their dog beds my mom puts a tiny bit of tobasco sauce around on the edges. I feel like that would be a bad idea with rats though. Ideas please!
I don’t know of any way to keep them from chewing the hammocks. Like someone else said, maybe put more chew toys in the cage for them? Maybe it would help to hang toys right next to or above each hammock, for those rats that are just too lazy to get out of bed to chew on something.
You can try making a “Chewers Hammock” like the one at http://www.dapper.com.au/hammocks.htm#chewers
If they are only/mostly chewing the corners, You could also just cut very large squares of fleece and cut a small hole in each corner to hang it with. When they chew the corners, just cut it a little smaller, cut more holes for hanging and use it again. Just keep doing that until the square becomes too small. Fleece doesn’t need to be hemmed, it won’t fall apart in the wash like other fabrics.
If all else fails, you can just stop using hammocks. Just cut a piece of fleece and put it in a box for them to sleep on.
As for hanging hammocks, I use metal shower hooks. You can find them in many stores, normally in the curtain section. They are only $1.50 or less for a package of 12.
And I agree to not use tabasco sauce. Some bitter spray like someone else suggested might work but they might actually like the taste.
New Generation Of Designer Dog Beds Puts Back The Wow In Bow-Wow
For humans, getting a good night’s sleep is very crucial for recharging our energies and ensuring that both our physical and mental functions are in top form for the next day’s activities. Why shouldn’t the same apply to our best friends?
Veterinarians concur that providing your dogs, whatever age or breed they may be, with comfortable sleeping quarters could be beneficial for their bones and joints. Beds designed specifically to help older and/or heavier dogs with orthopedic illnesses help alleviate their discomfort and aid in preventing their condition from getting worse. http://Pet-Super-Store.com is one such company, which offers high-density therapeutic foam beds where the futon follows the shape of the dog as he sleeps and reverts back to normal form when your pooch gets up. In short, the dog’s weight is evenly distributed, and this discomfort-free body alignment makes for healthier sleep. They use the same high-density foam that is used on the sofa beds for humans; even I can attest to just how cozy it can get.
Because of the huge variety of designer dog beds that have been coming out recently, whatever your dog’s specific sleeping requirement will surely be met. However, the ideal cradle for your pet should logically be selected according your location and lifestyle. For a toy dog owner, you might want a small but sophisticated bed for your dog without sacrificing its coziness or security. Owners of small dogs should also consider getting a low-placed bed to ensure that none of those misadventures involving a puppy making dangerous leaps off high furniture will ensue.
If you live in an estate country and know that your dog spends a lot of time outdoors, you may have to get him an outdoor bed to rest on when he tires of his outdoor frolicking. You should also consider getting them beds that are versatile during seasons, something that could keep them warm when it’s cold, and keep them cool when it’s hot. If your dog sheds a lot of fur, consider buying a bed that has material, which could be easily cleaned. Some beds come with a specially made textile that is resistant to stain, moisture, odor and bacteria and cleans easily at the same time. These fabrics are available in twill, velour, suede, and woven, and used as a bed covering.
For the more aesthetically discerning dog and dog owner, you can choose from a great collection of plush-covered beds with micro suede coverings. These beds come with Upholstery grade foam and high-density bolsters. The center inserts are often made from fleece or ultra-soft comfort fabrics. You have the option of designing your own bed and having it monogrammed with your beloved pet’s initials.
Granting your best friend a little nook specifically made for their dognaps lessens the chances of them taking over-or worse– soiling your silk couch or even your own bed. So it really might be good idea to invest in your doggie’s beds. You know they love you unconditionally; it wouldn’t hurt to spoil them a little. There is a vast array of doggie beds waiting for you to suit you and your pooch’s mood.
