Great gift for a dog-trainer friend/boss?
I was working at a rather unpleasant job lately, and a friend of mine at my old job (who was actually my boss) decided to make me an offer to come back to her group. Now I’m back, and I’m a lot happier! We’re not close, but she is a friend of mine and we did look out for one another before I left the company. I appreciate it very much, particularly given the state of the job market, that she welcomed me back with an offer for my skills which she has noted many times ‘brings tremendous value’. I’ve been thinking of a gift to give her, beyond say taking her out to lunch/dinner. Her passion outside of work is training dogs (big dog lover), and I’m trying to figure out a gift that falls within this realm that she not only would really love, but use as well. Any thoughts/ideas? We’re located in the NYC area if that helps.

Take her out to dinner to thank her. It’s hard to find the words to explain this but having worked as a teacher I understand how your occupation can influence almost every gift giver in your life. I don’t want to sound ungrateful but how many #1 teacher mugs and picture frames does any one person need?
