What kind of brushes should I use for my dog that gets matted often?
I need to figure out how to prevent, and deal with mats on my dog.
You didn’t mention what kind of dog you have.
But, in any case you will need a soft slicker brush and a metal comb (medium/course greyhound comb)
The slicker brush is going to get the top coat, but you really need to use a metal comb to get right down to the skin where the matts start.
If your dog is already matted..depending on the severity..the humane thing to do is shave the dog down and start over, this time doing daily combing at home.
The shed ender mentioned above, is not going to work with matts…it is a shedding tool used on breeds like Labs, Huskys.
Also, if you bathe your dog at home, make sure there are no matts on the dog. Once the hair starts to dry, the matts will get tighter. This also applies to dogs going out in the rain/snow when matted..the matts just get tighter and tighter when the hair dries.
