What do I get for my friend who’s dog died?
A friend found out on monday evening that her family dog (since she was in 4th grade, and is now in grad school) had to be put down.
Since she so far away from home, a few of us are getting together on Sunday to hold a small memorial service (well we get together every sunday, but this sunday is specifically going to be for a mini service). One girl is going to give her a framed photo of her and the dog. Another friend is baking bone-shaped cookies and writing the dog’s name on them.
I still have nothing, and noone I know can come up with anything that’s appropriate/easy to do (because of lack of time). Any suggestions?
Thank you all for your wonderful suggestions. I really like the poem, which I can print and laminate at my internship tomorrow and read on Sunday.

Can you find a jewelry or or key-chain in the shape of a dog bone?
As a dog owner I like to wear a piece of jewelry that has a connection to the dead dog for event that remind me of thm. For my first dog that earned her CDX (an obedience title that requires the dog to retrieve) I have a dumbbell necklace. For one dog I have a breed keyring that I put on a cord, and for my last one that was named “Garnet” I now wear a garnet ring.

Print out and Frame “The Rainbow Bridge” Poem:
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….
