How can I get my 7 month old Pit Bull to STOP BARKING? (please help)?
Ok my dog name is Sasha and she is an American Pit bull barks alot the cops even came to my house once. So I went out and bought an $45 shock collar she stayed quite for about but I think the battery ran low and cant deliver the full power so now she barks alot when I go out side she gets happy but then I go in the house and she barks for hours what can I do until I can go out and get a new battery? and right now she loose in the backyard (quietly) for now any ways ^-^ i dont need any cruel and harmful suggestions please. And Ive owned here for about 3 weeks so far and is a very playful and not very cooperative.
Yes i do walk her and play with her like 1 and 1/2 hours a day but shes super attached to me and wants me to camp in the back yard with her lol I didnt have a choose but to pick Sasha because I rescued her from a guy who wanted to starve her to death so I had no choose but to take her home with me. Im not being cruel to her Im just desired to make her not be so vocal.
The dog is outside most of the time? Then she’s alone and bored, that’s why she’s barking. The collar is just a band-aid, it’s not training her….every time the battery runs low you will have this problem. It’s also possible she could become de-sensitized to the collar. You would be better off trying to fix the *source* of her boredom.
Pit bulls are high-energy, intelligent working dogs. They need mental stimulation & a lot of exercise. Being a puppy, she’s full of even more energy….and at 7 months, not likely to be “cooperative” because she’s in the middle of canine adolescence. She’s a teenager, which makes her that much more challenging right now. Besides, dogs are social. They prefer the companionship of their owners- if you’re not spending a significant part of the day outside working/playing with her, it’d be better for her to spend at least part of the day inside with you. Can you bring her in the house while you’re home, so she at least has some human companionship? If you get a crate & work on training, you can teach good house manners….easier to do it now than to wait until she’s full grown.
If not, give her some things to do. Google “how to build springpole”….it’s a self-activated tug of war toy, relatively easy to put together & there are instructions online. Most Pit Bulls can entertain themselves for hours AND wear themselves out with one. Also google “flirtpole”….another cheap one you can build at home, but this one is interactive- good way to exercise a dog in the backyard. Take her for walks, play fetch, teach her new commands….anything you can do, to exercise her physically and mentally will help.
Find tough, durable & safe chew toys…..the black rubber Kongs, Galileo bones, Boomer balls & other toys designated for “power chewers” may give her an outlet. *Raw* beef femurs may also work. Most pit bulls enjoy chewing & can destroy just about any “normal” chew toy.
Good luck.
*add*….In regards to other answers- for the love of God don’t ever put a muzzle on an unattended dog!! Unsafe advice. No breed is “naturally aggressive”….every individual dog is different. “Playdates” with neighbor dogs IF they get along, are a nice exercise outlet but will not solve the barking.
When dogs bark for no reason- its out of boredom- fix the boredom, you fix the problem

A Closer Look on Electric Dog Fences
Dog fences come in various types. In choosing which dog fence to use, there are some factors to consider. These include the owner’s budget, dog breed, and dog personality. Solid wood privacy fences may be too expensive for some; and cheaper options include chain link fences, snow fences, and picket fences. However, most people now are using hidden fences since they are very practical. An electric dog fence falls under the hidden fence category.
How does an electric dog fence work?
An electric wire may be placed underground around the portion in your garden where you want your dog to be confined. It also requires your dog to wear a receiver. The underground wire will transmit a weak radio field when the dog is already near the protected perimeter. When this happens, the dog’s collar will beep, and if the dog still crosses the boundary despite the warning, a mild electric shock will be given to the dog.
You may have this idea that the underground fence is a buried hot wire. It is basically a radio antenna that sends out a signal, activating the dog’s collar battery. The battery creates a shock similar to that of static electricity. The dog may back off if he feels the minor shock.
With technological advancements, wireless dog fence receivers are already available, and some dog collars are even waterproof.
Advantages
The electric dog fence system is perfect for those people who do not like to put up a visible fence around their property. The system can give an impression that the home owners are not bothered by the neighborhood dogs or even their pet dogs.
If one is using this type of system, your neighbors may be surprised why your lawn is not damaged with all the dogs roaming around your area.
Using an electric dog fence is also beneficial to those areas where there are zoning laws that prohibit erecting fences. Other benefits include less view obstruction both from outside and inside of the house, and they are also perfect in protecting flower beds and off-limits spaces.
Disadvantages
Electric dog fences may not work well with heavy coated dogs, but this could be remedied by frequent hair shaving. A receiver may cost $300 or more, and there have been police reports of burglary in houses where the system is used. The receiver was removed by thieves directly right from the dog’s neck. As a worst-case scenario, they may even steal your pet dog as well.
Some dogs also have this high threshold for pain, and if they are strongly distracted and agitated, they may go through the boundary. If they try to re-enter the protected area, they may be reluctant to return since they do not want to feel the same mild shock again.
These electric dog fences are currently available in retail stores, such as those found in the World Wide Web. Make sure that you can get a list of their features before you decide to make a purchase.
