Female 14lb. dog 10 yrs old kidney stone large. The vet says surgery Is their another way to deal with stones?
She is not spayed and never been bread. The vet says spay while she is under. Is this to much for her?
As far as the spay, she really should be spayed to prevent pyometra at this age. It is especially important if she never had puppies. Pyometras occur frequently in older dogs who never had puppies, and they can be deadly.
As far as the kidney stone, if it is too large to dissolve or pass then surgery is the only other option. Kidney stones are extremely painful, so you should make some decisions on this right a way. Sometimes they can dissolve them if they are smaller. Has the vet tried that, or does he know it’s too large? It might be worth trying.
