Waterproof hiking boots with support for ‘over pronation’ in the UK?
My father in law has over pronation in both his feet and he cannot get a pair of hiking boots to fit. He loves to walk his dog in the forest but with the boots he has got it is aggravating the condition. Money is not an object for the right boot! Can anybody help please?
The best thing for him to do would be to go to somewhere like Sub4 ( http://www.sub4orthotics.co.uk/comforthotics.html ), they will do loads of tests on his feet and customise special orthotics for him.
In terms of walking boots, Scarpa SL’s are the best, these can be combined with the orthotics mentioned above for best results

Keeping Everyone Warm During Winter
Keeping snug and warm when the temperature takes a dive is easy when you are dressed for the season. British winters can be rather cold affairs so it makes sense to prepare yourself for the inevitable nip in the air and what you wear is an integral part of the process.
To keep you warm during the coldest months of the year, opt for heat trapping fabrics like fleece and leather. Knitted clothing is a good choice as well.
The common characteristic of these fabrics is that they are good insulators and keep your body warm even when the weather is quite the opposite. Fleece is organic, soft and very durable though take care when washing it because it is natural and therefore delicate. Fleece should be hand washed and left to dry naturally – keep well away from tumble driers as this will shrink the fabric.
Fashionable knits also help to keep you warm during winter and all sorts of garments can be purchased, from socks and scarves to jumpers and cardigans and you can even buy knitted sweaters for your pets.
Dog clothes in particular are widely available and you can pick up anything and everything from sweatshirts and fleece lined waterproof coats to special doggy booties that protect precious paws from frostbite, ice and snow.
Pooches are now more used to sleeping and being indoors so they may need an extra layer of protection against the harsh elements, especially in freezing temperatures. Shorthaired breeds are particularly vulnerable to low temperatures compared to breeds with long, thick coats.
All sorts of pet garments are available and if you are creatively minded you could even create your own. Get the knitting needles out and whip up a scarf or hat for yourself. You could knit a jumper for four legged or furry friends or you could follow suit of a pioneering Welsh animal lover who has been knitting woolly jumpers for chickens.
One of the benefits of knitting your own winter warmers is being able to create a garment of any shape, design, size and colour and you can therefore make truly individual pieces.
Leather is another top pick for winter clothes as it helps to keep the warmth in. Leather is a very flexible material so you get a whole host of different leather items such as jackets, boots and gloves. Leather is also very resistant to abrasion and wind, making it ideal for the harsher winter weather.
Regardless of whether you are looking for mens clothing, women’s clothing or pet clothing this winter, look out for the winter-proof materials that will help to keep you, and your pets, looking sharp whilst staying warm at the same time.
