DS: How many of you take the Dog Whisperer (Cesar Millan) as gospel?
I have been watching his show since the first airing. I have watched it religiously up until about 6 months ago when I finally decided he has his head up his butt when it comes to ‘no dog is too much for me’ and ALL dogs can be rehabilitated. I have watched him take highly human aggressive dogs and supposedly ‘fix’ them at his center over a number of weeks or months. This is the BIGGEST thing about his show that bothers me.
I believe unsound, weak temperments genetically inclined that drives a dog to human aggression over and over are not fixable.

The basic principles of treating a dog like a dog and making sure there is exercise,discipline and boundaries are sound…that’s about where it ends for me.
He misplaces the dominance theory far too often and I’m surprised there aren’t more instances of pet owners being hurt from trying to use some of his techniques.
One of the first episodes I saw was of what seemed to be a dog obsessed with things like reflections on surfaces.His diagnosis was that the dog was being dominant over the light.In reality the dog likely had a obsession/compulsion issue that was never dealt with.This is just an example that comes to mind.
Like your issues with HA,I have issues how he treats DA dogs,especially the bully breeds.In my honest opinion if you gave Mr. Milan a well bred,highly driven,hot APBT he would have no clue on how to handle it.I’ve heard him say on different occasions it’s dog,then breed,then name.All dogs are individuals,all breeds were developed for a purpose and thus have certain genetic predispositions.Ignoring these factors can lead to some serious issues.
As shown in this video,he is ill prepared to properly handle the APBT.Several dogs running loose,no collars,no leashes and no breakstick.The predictable happens and a tchhh and a point can’t stop it.

The one positive of this video is that it shows how much help is actually around and that Mr. Milan is not a miracle worker managing all these dogs on his own.
