A new Chihuahua puppy! How to introduce her ?

OK, i have had two cats, one siamese and a birman, 1 year olds. 1 month ago I brought home a 6 mnth doberman puppy (big!) with acceptable success. Only the birman hisses at him everytime he tries to get in his face. The siamese (sebastian) loves to sleep by my wife’s side on the edge of the bed. Furby (the birman) at my feet, and Maximilian the dog in his bed, everyone is happy….

But my wife just informed me that my sister in law gave her a 2 month old chihuahua little girl! What? what the… now how am I gonna do it again? Those two cats are gonna bully her, Maximilian the doberman is gonna be protective over her and royal rumble is on!

Advises are urgently requested, the new puppy arrives home tonight.

Your biggest challenge is going to be keeping Max from stepping on the Chihuahau pup. You will be surprised that the Chihuahua will probably rule the roost and good ole Max will be scurrying away at the slightest grumble your little Chi makes. The big sissy. LOL.

But for initial introductions, try to keep the Chihuahua safe from Max’s paws. The cats should be no more threatened by your newcomer and many cats treat chihuahua babies as if THEY were cats as well. Just make sure that either pup doesn’t start chasing the cats and everyone should get along fine.

And for a final thought….please make sure that you and your wife establish yourselves as pack leaders. If you do, Max shouldn’t feel the need to be so protective.

Have fun with all of the housebreaking ahead of you..and don’t forget to hug your pups!
